Unfortunately, I was at the "Debacle in the Desert" on Friday night. The only good thing was I didn't travel 1800 miles to witness it, only 30 miles. I was there with several Ohio State fans, also unfortunate. I kept telling them, even with a 31 point lead, it's not over. They didn't believe me. I pointed out the difference in the fans late in the 3rd quarter, the Texas Tech fans were getting louder and rowdier, the Gopher fans were sitting on their hands, afraid to cheer. My OSU friends were amazed. After the Gophers predictably lost the game, all I could do was laugh, my OSU friends must have thought that they needed to get me to a hospital, it was kind of a manical laugh in retrospect. I told them when we left, that if that game didn't get Glen Mason fired, then the U of M was content with a low level of mediocrity for the next several years. In typical MN fashion, they are afraid to win. Well, much to my surprise, I received a phone call this afternoon from a nephew in MN, Glen Mason WAS fired. I am in a state of euphoria. There is hope in Gopherland.
