A few days ago you asked for some pictures of fall colors. I delayed in getting out to snap some photos and then we had some very windy days...well, there's not much here to look at anymore. This is about as close as it comes:

So there's your Minnesota fall colors tour. Feel free to tip on your way out.
It did start snowing here today. (25 degrees, stiff wind - admit it. You're homesick.) And right in front of the house there's some sort of shrubbery with a few leaves left, so I have a combo Fall Color/Hello Winter snapshot for you:

I found another surface that showed the light accumulation:

Ah yes, snow. Hot chocolate, marshmallows, sledding, skating, catching snowflakes on your tongue, building snowmen, the theme music to Peanuts cartoons...and if you're a mother, it's all that plus, soggy mittens shoved in the bottom of backpacks, snowpants dripping water on the floor, dragging children out of warm, cozy beds and sending them off to school in the frozen, pitch black darkness, convincing your kids that it's fun when the car fishtails on icy patches, and the seemingly unending runny noses.
Yee. Haw.
Posted by Cathy at October 12, 2006 12:36 PMAhhh, makes me appreciate... well, it makes me appreciate 90 degrees and sunny. Sorry, just doesn't do it for me anymore. Makes my knees ache just looking at it.
It's been in the mid 60's overnight here, perfect for sleeping with the windows open, and none of that annoying humidity to deal with, nice, calm, cool and dry. Perfect.
Hey, third picture down, I think I think I know that person. Hope we're still on for Friday at El Rancho, 5:00. Mocha-momma and I are looking forward to it. See you there.

We lived near Annandale for a decade before moving to St. Paul. The Wright County scenery still looks familiar. Just west of Delano somewhere, I'd guess?
Thanks for posting these - they're nice shots.

Posted by: Nate Bissonette at October 12, 2006 04:40 PMHi David! Yes, we're still on for tomorrow night. We'll see you there.
Nate - we're about half way between Annandale and Cokato. I remember you saying something before about being on a lake out near here.
And Chris...just fess up. You miss it. The ache isn't in your knees...it's in your heart. ;-P
Posted by: Cathy at October 12, 2006 08:02 PMThe most I can admit to missing is the idea of snow. Looking out my former living room window across what once was fields/swamp/forest (now townhouses and houses) watching all the poor slobs on 94 east bound into Mpls crawling along thru the crud. Yep, those were the days. I'm actually on my way out the back door to enjoy a fine cigar in this beautiful 70 degree evening.
Posted by: Chris H. at October 12, 2006 09:24 PMSo Chris, where are you at now. Most people I've talked to who love their 80-90 degree winters don't usually mention the hurricanes, tornadoes, mudslides, forest fires, or the myriad of other natural disasters they might encounter in their neck of the woods. I certainly hope you've found a little nirvanna somewhere in the good old U.S.of A.
Posted by: kingdavid at October 12, 2006 10:12 PMPhoenix, AZ. The only thing I have to put up with is the rare 118-120 degree days. Oh, and possible water shortages if they keep building they way they are... minor details.
Posted by: Chris H at October 13, 2006 12:59 PMThanks for the pic's. I think they are great, and yes homesick as always, until I get there and I sure don't miss the wind, yuck, or ALL the people. Sorry, I'll stay up here in the cold with the soggy mittens and the 20 minutes just to get dressed to go outside and then the "MOM, I gotta go to the bathroom" Yes, Welcome Winter...
Posted by: Emmy at October 13, 2006 05:16 PMWe're in Rockford, about 25 minutes from Cathy, but at least we're in a house now. I'll never forget when we were living in an apartment---I have pictures of my wife taking the dog out to do his duty and taking the garbage out. It looks like she was part of Anne Bancroft's Antarctic expeditions. We don't miss those days at all.
Posted by: kingdavid at October 13, 2006 10:22 PMThat's actually how I found this blog. I grew up in Cokato. Saw the title Cathy in the Wright and figured it just had to be Wright County MN. Those pics remind me of our last house in Monticello, a little acreage and an out building. I do miss that.

Hold everything. You're half-way from Annandale to Cokato?
FRENCH LAKE?!?!?!
That's far too cool. I'm jealous.
