It never fails, does it? I get a nice link from one of the top MOBsters, and his readers head over to see what the fuss is all about...and I haven't posted in days. No one home. Sorry.
Thank you, Craig, for all the kind words.
And why haven't I posted? It is not for want of material. But my blog, much like my second son, seems to be possessed. Moveable Type is the only application on my computer that is affected. Parts of it just won't work. To get this post to show up, I'll be emailing my dad to have him refresh it on his computer. And The VP positively frowns on the idea that I need an entirely new machine just to blog.
Spoil sport.
So blogging is getting to be a hassle, and I'm thinking of throwing in the towel. Anyone want a weekend blogger for their site? I could fill up some space while you're out raking the yard or visiting the in-laws. And no one would probably even associate my dribble with your blog anyway. No one remembers weekend commentators. Can you name the person who reads the teleprompter for the evening news on Sundays? Think about it. You can get back to me anytime. I'm not going anywhere. Except, perhaps, back to BlogSpot. Oh, the humanity!
I had a really scathing paragraph about the English guy that plays in my Monday night soccer league, but I'm too beat. I think I'll go join The Governor for a nap. I just took this picture.

One day, sixteen years from now, he'll be in the same position, but it'll be a beer bottle, instead of a Tippee cup. Oh they grow up so fast.
Posted by Cathy at February 8, 2005 02:07 PMA friend once remarked on how nice it was for television stations to let unattractive people read the news on weekends.
The problem is, you write too well not to stand out. I don't think you can blend into the wallpaper.
Slightly off-topic, "dribble"? 'Drivel' I could understand (and disagree with), but "dribble"? Or were you just foreshadowing the picture?
I'm sorry you're still having problems with your machine. Have you tried the AdAware or Spybot S&D utilities? It may be that you have some malware on your PC. One option, should the utilities not help, is to back up all of your critical information (letters, blog entries, etc.) and reload your machine, or at least uninstall and reinstall MT; either is a pain, but it may be preferable to the current situation.
Hi Aelfheld!
Thanks for the note. The VP has not had a chance to check into the new programs you listed. We run Pest Patrol (I think), but he has promised me to look into the others. Thanks for the suggestions.
As for re-installing Moveable Type, I don't know how. The whole site was set up for me; MT is not a file or folder or program that's in my computer. I merely access it on my server. I think. I cannot overestimate my computer ignorance here. I'm going to email Dean Esmay (he set it up for me) and see if he has any ideas. I won't throw my hands up without at least a small fight.
And I definitely meant dribble. ;-)
Posted by: Cathy at February 8, 2005 02:44 PMWho runs this house anyway? Break out the plastic and get yourself a new computer. The old one will make a great game computer for the kids. Or better yet, order the VP to buy or you will hide the keys for the Vette. If you quit blogging how will I fill my afternoons?
Posted by: DaveP at February 8, 2005 03:20 PMIf MT doesn't reside on your machine, you most likely have acquired a virus or some form of malware.
If you're running Symantec's Norton AntiVirus, dig out the CD; boot your machine from the CD and run Antivirus from there (run Live Update prior to the re-boot to get the most recent definitions). If you're running any other antivirus package, see if you can do something similar. This should prevent any existing viruses (I know, I know, it should properly be 'virii', but this is computer talk) from loading when the operating system loads and goofing up a scan.
Double-check your firewall software; if by chance you're not running a firewall, try ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/).
If the above doesn't help, you should definitely load and run AdAware and Spybot S&D. I don't know anything about Pest Patrol, so I won't comment on it, but I know AdAware and Spybot S&D work.
PS, all of the products I've recommended should warm the cockles of The VP's heart - they're free for personal use.
Posted by: aelfheld at February 8, 2005 03:43 PMHey guys! Thanks for all the help and encouragement. This is the first time in days I've felt like really attacking this problem. I'll set The VP on it tonight.
Dave - See you Sunday!
Posted by: Cathy at February 8, 2005 03:50 PMI like the picture of the Governor, but what you have to add to the 16 year from now image is the girl under the other arm.
Hugs,
Aunt S
I can't believe the day has arrived where the VP is balking at buying something electronic. If incentive is required you could always authorize that he also buy something that he wants.
Posted by: Sheriff Bart at February 9, 2005 10:13 AMTippee cup? And here I've thought, for the last 20 years or so, that it was called a Sippee cup. Am I wrong here? Answer carefully, because my whole entire understanding of the world is at stake.
Posted by: Ryan at February 10, 2005 09:28 AMRyan...I'll have to do some research. I'm sure there are regional differences. Don't panic. Keep your pants...oops, I mean keep your chin up!
